#47: “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” Is A MYTH; The Truth About Ferguson & Michael Brown
The media has been fanning the flames of the Black Lives Matter protests that have spread throughout the country. On this week’s episode of the Scoop we are DEBUNKING one of the media’s biggest lies about Black Lives Matter, one of their favorite chants, “Hands up, don’t shoot.”
This phrase is a complete lie that stems from the shooting of Michael Brown in 2014. After the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, a false rumor spread that Brown was surrendering and said “Hands Up Don’t Shoot” before he was shot and killed execution style by Police Officer Darren Wilson. The myth was spread by the media and prominent leaders in the Black Lives Matter movement. And as we’ve seen over the past couple weeks, it still exists today. But it’s a lie, and we have the documentary evidence to prove it.
In 2015, Phelim wrote a verbatim play, Ferguson, which used only dialogue and evidence from the grand jury proceedings for Officer Darren Wilson. We found out quickly that a lot of people did not want the truth to get out – before the play even premiered, nine cast members walked out and the media largely refused to cover the story.
On this week’s podcast episode, we share with you clips from Ferguson which show the real story behind the Michael Brown case. You can watch the full play of Ferguson here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBVNATEyF_g&t=51s
