The Gosnell Movie
Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer is the shocking true story of the investigation and trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, his 30 year killing spree and the political and media establishment that tried to cover it up.
It is one of the most successfully crowdfunded films in history and it was produced by Ann McElhinney, Phelim McAleer, and Magdalena Segeida. Almost 30,000 people donated over $2.3m in 45 days. When it ended it was the most successful crowdfunding campaign on the Indiegogo website.
Kermit Gosnell was originally investigated for illegal prescription drug sales, but a raid by DEA, FBI and local law enforcement revealed crimes they could not have expected within the clinic. The abortionist’s dangerous and unethical practices in his clinic led to his conviction on murder and manslaughter charges, resulting in a life sentence in prison. Gosnell reveals the true story of the heroes who worked to bring a monster to justice. The film was directed by Nick Searcy and stars Dean Cain.
The film is based upon the New York Times bestseller Gosnell: The Untold Story of America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer, co-written by Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer. The book became especially controversial when The New York Times initially refused to feature it on its bestsellers list despite its massive sales. The film was one of the most successfully crowdfunded films in history. Almost 30,000 people donated over $2.3 million in just 45 days. When the campaign ended, it was the most successful crowdfunding campaign on the Indiegogo website.
Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer was released in October 2018 and was the #1 independent film in the United States during its opening weekend. It also was one of the top selling DVDs on Amazon.
